Opening Keynote

Stefan Molyneux: A Canadian blogger, essayist, author, and host of the Freedomain Radio[2] series of podcasts, living in Mississauga, Southern Ontario, Stefan is a voluntaryist who has written numerous articles and smaller essays which have been published on libertarian websites such as LewRockwell.com, antiwar.com and Strike The Root. He has recorded over 1500 podcasts and written numerous books which are all self-published except for his first, which was published by Publish America. Molyneux’s works cover politics, philosophy, economics, relationships, atheism, and personal freedom. In 2006 Stefan Molyneux quit his job in the field of computer software and now works full-time on Freedomain Radio, a philosophical community website which is funded completely through donations. Stefan Molyneux was the closing speaker for the 2009 New Hampshire Liberty Forum on the 8th of March. The position was taken by Ron Paul in 2008 and John Stossel in 2007. Molyneux was also the opening speaker for the Free State Project’s PorcFest 2010.

Closing Keynote

David Boaz: The executive vice president of the Cato Institute, David Boaz has played a key role in the development of the Cato Institute and the libertarian movement. He is a provocative commentator and a leading authority on domestic issues such as education choice, drug legalization, the growth of government, and the rise of libertarianism. Boaz is the former editor of New Guard magazine and was executive director of the Council for a Competitive Economy prior to joining Cato in 1981. He is the author of Libertarianism: A Primer, described by the Los Angeles Times as “a well-researched manifesto of libertarian ideas,” the editor of The Libertarian Reader, and co-editor of the Cato Handbook For Policymakers. His articles have been published in the Wall Street Journal, the New York Times, the Washington Post, the Los Angeles Times, National Review, and Slate. He is a frequent guest on national television and radio shows, and has appeared on ABC’s Politically Incorrect with Bill Maher, CNN’s Crossfire, NPR’s Talk of the Nation and All Things Considered, John McLaughlin’s One on One, Fox News Channel, BBC, Voice of America, Radio Free Europe, and other media. His latest book is The Politics of Freedom.

Speakers:

Samantha K. Harris is a Philadelphia native, graduated from the University of Pennsylvania Law School and from Princeton University, where she earned an A.B. magna cum laude in politics. As an undergraduate, Samantha completed a senior thesis that analyzed the constitutional implications of former Mayor Rudolph Giuliani’s quality-of-life initiative in New York City. During law school, she served on the editorial board of the Journal of Constitutional Law. Before joining FIRE, Samantha clerked for the late Honorable Jay C. Waldman of the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Pennsylvania, and most recently was an associate at the law firm of Pepper Hamilton in Philadelphia.  Samantha now works as the Director of Speech Codes Research at the Foundation for Individual Rights in Education.

Matt Harrison graduated from the University of Miami with a Bachelor of Business Administration in Political Science and from the University of Southern California with a joint law degree and Master of Public Policy. Matt founded Prometheus in 2003 and serves as the Institute’s President. As the driving force behind the creative and strategic vision of Prometheus, Matt identified and recruited a talented team of engineers, designers and contributors. He was the brainchild behind the DIY Democracy iPhone app, has authored over 200 articles, publications and other features for Prometheus, has been a guest on several talk radio shows and has been quoted in the Orange County Register and Chicago Tribune.

Michael Strong is a pioneer in education and independent learning. He is the author of The Habit of Thought:  From Socratic Seminars to Socratic Practice, and the founder of innovative Socratic, Montessori, and Paideia schools and programs in Alaska, Florida, California, Texas, and New Mexico. Moreno Valley High School, the charter school for which Michael was the founding principal, was ranked the 36th best public high school in the U.S. on the Washington Post’s 2006 Challenge Index.  Michael is co-founder and board member, and serves as Chief Executive Officer and Chief Visionary Officer of FLOW.

Ed Hudgins is the Directory of Advocacy and Senior Scholar, the former director of regulatory studies for the Cato Institute and editor of Regulation magazine, he is an expert on the regulation of space and transportation, pharmaceuticals, and labor. He served as a senior economist for the Joint Economic Committee of the U.S. Congress and was both deputy director for economic policy studies and director of the Center for International Economic Growth at the Heritage Foundation. He has testified on many occasions before Congress. His opinion writing has been published in the Wall Street Journal, Houston Chronicle, USA TodayPhiladelphia InquirerJournal of Commerce, and Aviation Week & Space Technology. He is the editor of Freedom to Trade: Refuting the New Protectionism, Space: The Free Market Frontier and two books on postal service privatization. His latest collection is entitled An Objectivist Secular Reader. He has appeared on NBC’s “Dateline NBC,” National Public Radio, PBS, Fox News Channel, CNN, MSNBC and Voice of America. Hudgins has a bachelor’s degree from the University of Maryland, a master’s from American University, and a doctorate from Catholic University in political philosophy. He has taught at universities in the United States and in Germany. He served as Washington director and then executive director of The Atlas Society before taking up his current positions.
